Melon Guide

Cantaloupe

The familiar orange fleshed melon most of us grew up with. Netted tan rind, musky sweet aroma, and soft juicy flesh. A classic for fruit salad, breakfast, or eating straight off the rind.

Honeydew

Smooth pale green rind with light green flesh inside. Milder and less musky than cantaloupe, with a clean, crisp sweetness.

Seedless Watermelon

The watermelon most shoppers know best. Bred to skip the mature black seeds, though you may still spot small white seed coats in the flesh. Classic crisp texture and sweet red flesh.

"Yumi" Black Seedless Watermelon

A striking variety with a rind so dark green it reads almost black. Inside, the flesh is crisp, juicy, and notably sweet. The variety traces back to a prized black watermelon originally grown in Japan.

Seeded Watermelon

The traditional watermelon, mature black seeds and all. A nostalgic pick for anyone who grew up spitting seeds in the backyard.

Galia Melons

A hybrid between cantaloupe and honeydew. The rind looks netted like a cantaloupe, but the flesh inside is pale green like honeydew, with an aromatic, almost tropical sweetness.

Hami Melons

Named for the Hami region of Xinjiang, China, where they've been grown for centuries. Oblong in shape with a golden, ribbed rind, Hami melons are prized for flesh that's crisper and firmer than a typical cantaloupe, with a similarly sweet, fragrant flavor.

"Daybreak" Yellow Watermelon

A seedless watermelon with pale yellow flesh instead of red. Sweet with a milder, honeyed flavor than a traditional red watermelon.

"Full Moon" Yellow Watermelon

Another seedless, yellow fleshed watermelon variety. Like other yellow watermelons, it tends to be a touch milder and less musky than red fleshed varieties. Fun to slice alongside a red watermelon for a colorful spread.

Charentais

A small French heirloom cantaloupe with smooth grey green skin and deep orange flesh. Highly fragrant and considered by many chefs to be one of the sweetest, most aromatic melons around.

Orange Honeydew

A honeydew type melon with vibrant orange flesh instead of green. Sweeter and more tropical tasting than its green counterpart.

Piel de Sapo

Spanish for "toad skin," named for its mottled green rind. The pale flesh inside is crisp and sweet, with a milder aroma than cantaloupe. Known for keeping well after harvest.

Honeysaurus/Snow Leopard

A specialty personal sized melon with a distinctive speckled ivory and green rind. Inside, the white flesh is crisp, sweet, and mild, with light floral notes. A fun one to try if you're ready to branch out.
