Melon Guide

Classic Melons 

Availability: May - September

Cantaloupe

Region: Mexico, California, Northwest 
Skin: tan, netted
Flesh: orange
Texture: Succulent 

Cantaloupe is a forever favorite that tastes like summer. Sweet and juicy, it is everything an eater wants in a melon. To check for ripeness, gently press a thumb into the stem end of the melon. If it gives slightly, it’s ready to enjoy.

Green Honeydew

Region: Mexico, California, Northwest
Skin: light green, smooth
Flesh: green
Texture: succulent

Honey sweet with hints of apple, this melon mainstay needs little introduction. To check for ripeness, gently press a thumb into the stem end of the melon. If it gives slightly, it’s ready to enjoy.

Seedless Watermelon

Region: Mexico, California, Northwest
Skin: green, smooth
Flesh: red
Texture: crisp

Sweet, juicy and satisfying. Watermelons can be striped, green, solid dark green, with seeds or seedless and come in many sizes.

"Yumi" Black Seedless Watermelon

These sweet and juicy wonders turn heads and catch shoppers’ eyes with their shiny black rind and exceptionally sweet, deep red flesh.

Seeded Watermelon

Seeded watermelons are the classic variety, known for their large size, thick green rind, and bright red flesh dotted with black seeds.

"Full Moon" Yellow Watermelon

Charentais

Hami

Orange Honeydew

Piel de Sapo

Football shaped with distinctively patterned skin, this melon’s flavor is a cross between honeydew and pear. To check for ripeness, look for skin that is beginning to turn more yellow than green, and a melon that feels heavy for its size.

Honeysaurus/Snow Leopard
