Our Ingredients

Here, we don’t skimp on the ingredients. We use more than 70% local or organic products in our prepared foods, salad bar and baked goods each year.

Last year, that percentage equated to 499,847 pounds of local and organic food.

In our bakery, when a recipe calls for it, we always choose organic Montana-grown wheat flour and organic eggs and dairy.

The reason is simple. Local and organic food is the freshest, highest quality choice for both our bodies and the environment.

Plus, it just tastes better.

Why Bulk?

Buying in bulk is a great way to shop on a budget: You aren’t paying for packaging and you can buy as much, or as little, as you need. By reusing your own containers, this way of shopping also reduces the amount of trash going into our environment.

How to Buy In Bulk

  • Weigh your empty container on one of the available scales.

  • Record the weight of the container (labels are by the scales).

  • Record the PLU number from the product dispenser.

The cashier will deduct the empty container weight when ringing up the product.

Re-Use Bags, Jars or Plastic Containers

We will take 10 cents-off for every cloth or re-used grocery-bag, jar or plastic container that you bring in and re-use while shopping.

Meat & Seafood

Co-op Ranch to Market

From grass-fed beef, to pork, lamb and free-range chicken, we are proud to offer a wide selection of humanely raised local, regional and organic meat. Providing our customers with options to purchase food free of chemicals, growth hormones and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is very important to us.

All of our beef is grass-fed, free-range and free of antibiotics, hormones and animal by-products.

In addition to being the freshest food available, local meat also creates and retains revenue within our community, promotes sustainable agriculture and preserves open space. Co-op Ranch to Market provides local, healthy and sustainable products raised by Montana ranchers.

Look for local, regional and organic signage throughout the meat department.

Co-op Choice Seafood

Seafood is a healthy part of many of our diets. However, as our oceans continue to be over fished, their health and vitality is threatened. Our shopping decisions, even here in Montana, can have a huge impact on our world’s marine ecosystems.

Our business is dedicated to food systems that encourage healthy environments. Our purchasing choices can contribute to the problem, or, we can take steps to make it better. Your Co-op is choosing to work towards a more sustainable seafood industry.

Using the Monterrey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch list as our guide, we purchase seafood that is fished or farmed in ways that are the least harmful to the environment and other marine species.

We do not purchase any seafood on the Seafood Watch’s “Avoid” list, those animals that are over fished or come with major concerns about fishing or farming practices.

Produce

Co-op Produce

Co-op West Main’s Produce Department is packed with local and organic flavor. We offer a wide selection of fresh fruits and vegetables grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, including many certified organic options.

We strive to stock our shelves with the highest-quality fruits and vegetables available, prioritizing those that are grown within our region and/or are certified organic.

Providing our customers with food free of chemicals, pesticides, insecticides and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is very important to us.
