Meet Our Montana Wellness Makers

Co-op News

Every September, Montana Month reminds us just how much talent and heart goes into the products on our shelves. This week, we're turning the spotlight on our wellness makers: the soap crafters, tallow renderers, herbalists, and beekeepers who are quietly building something real, often out of their own kitchens and backyards.

All month long, their products are on sale throughout the store. Here's who you'll be supporting.

Amaltheia Organic Dairy — Goat Milk Lotion

20% off

This lotion started as a fix for a very specific problem: hands raised on cheesemaking and constantly dried out from being in water. What began as a batch for family and friends found its way to the farmers market, and the Co-op was the first retail store to pick it up. Word spread from there, and the lotion has built a devoted following ever since, helping with everything from psoriasis to sunburn to rashes on babies. A tallow-based sunblock is currently in the works.

Little Appalachia Apothecary

30% off

Jennie's business started as a quiet, personal search for ways to heal, learning folk medicine and plant knowledge from Appalachian elders and years of books. That knowledge traveled with her through years on the move before settling in northwest Montana's Flathead Valley, where she now gathers herbs and mixes remedies with her fiancé, their new daughter, and two dogs in tow. Everything is 100% organic and wildcrafted, and Jennie donates 5% of profits to local dog rescues, the same kind that placed her own two rescue dogs.

Meadowsweet Herbs

20% Off

A woman-owned apothecary in Missoula, operating since 1996 and run by trained herbalists. Meadowsweet makes house salves, sprays, and remedies using local, organic, and wildcrafted ingredients, alongside bulk herbs and DIY body care ingredients for anyone who wants to build their own.

Windrift Hill — Goat Milk Soap

30% off

Windrift Hill started when Deena Maier, an occupational therapist, kept seeing people struggle with skin issues that medication wasn't solving. Her research led her to goat's milk, and she began making soap in her own kitchen in Conrad, Montana. Today the family runs the operation together, hand-milking their Nubian goats twice daily for high-quality milk that goes into dozens of soaps, lotions, and body butters.

Montana Tallow Company

20% Off

Kathryn Rabb started Montana Tallow Company after her newborn developed a sensitivity to conventional skincare products. A Registered Nurse with a background in aesthetics, she turned to tallow for its gentle, restorative qualities and built a line of small-batch skincare from grass-fed beef tallow sourced from local, ethical ranchers.

Hindu Hillbilly Honey

20% Off

Justin and Kavita Bay are beekeepers, makers, and small-scale farmers in western Montana. What started in 2009 with a few backyard hives has grown into a business built on staying hands-on at every step, prioritizing connection and care over scale.

Abiqua Naturals — Elderberry Boost

20% off

Elderberry Boost started the way a lot of good things do: a new mom paying closer attention to what she was putting in and on her body during pregnancy. After a few trial batches shared with friends and family, the feedback was clear enough that it became a full-time pursuit. The family relocated from Oregon to Montana in 2021, and Elderberry Boost remains the product at the heart of it all.

Fierce Women Warriors

20% Off - Moisturizers Only

Montana Emu Ranch

20% off

Located in the Rocky Mountains of northwest Montana, near the Canadian border, Montana Emu Ranch raises its emus with round-the-clock access to clean water and a specially formulated, chemical-free feed ground from local crops. Every batch of emu oil is processed at a Montana state-inspected facility and kept separate from other ranches' fat, a detail that matters for purity and quality.
