Biography
Howdy!
I’m Marrakech, originally hailing from Wyoming, I went to school in Seattle, Washington and studied Public and Environmental Affairs. I then returned to the great Mountain West post graduation to join where my siblings had been since 2016. We used to live in a house together by Cooper Park!
I’ve since served on a few boards in our community and would like to serve the Co-Op community as well. I also worked at the West Main Co-Op for a while too.
I deeply believe in equitable workspaces, kind and respectful community, and maintaining the foundational belief that none of this works without all the people who make the Co-Op what it is. Our bakers, janitorial staff, managers, front and back end workers; everyone is needed to make the Co-Op what it is, and it’s important that we care for you all, just as you care for us.
Relevant skills and experience
I’ve sat on multiple boards over the last decade of my life. In Bozeman, I’ve sat on two boards: Queer Bozeman and Forward Montana. I deeply enjoy working with people, supporting and facilitating detailed communication, and community project work. I know I have the experience, time, and excitement for the position and know I would serve our Co-Op community with dignity. It also helps that I’m a former employee who has experience in the workplace flows and culture.
Issues of particular interest
Supporting our working members in their duties and creating an environment that the Bozeman community loves and believes in. Maintaining local connections with our farmers, community members, and support systems. After all, in order to thrive, it will always take a village. I’m also interested in the financial budgets for the year and what allocations are made based on the team needs of both Co-Ops.
Important issues facing the Co-op
Maintaining the quality of experience that our community has come to expect at the Co-Op while also supporting a healthy and fulfilling work environment for our team. Including; maintaining relationship with our local vendors to keep close access to local and fresh food, good benefits to employees, and more.
Strengths brought to the board
Over a decade of board experience. Co-Op employee experience prior to applying for board leadership. Financial literacy for nonprofit board work, among other skills. A very friendly demeanor that serves well for conflict resolution, and a deep willingness to serve our community.
Interest in serving on the Board
Reviewing the GM position and evaluating ways to support the budgeting process. Educating our community on what it takes to have the Co-Op be what it is (so much, and lots of people!).
